CAREER DISCOVERY

When the bus stops coming
purpose should disappear, too

Suzanne set out to find the place her daughter Emilie deserved after graduating from Ivymount School. When that place didn’t exist, she built it. LuxPoshibilities is the answer to the “Service Cliff” — the moment when school ends and structured support, community, and purpose disappear almost overnight for adults with disabilities. Suzanne built the place she wished had existed. A nonprofit social enterprise and career internship program for adults with disabilities and neurodivergent adults, ages 21 to 36. Retail is the vehicle; the destination is confidence, belonging, and a real career.

BEYOND THE SIXTEEN

Discovery does not have an expiration date.

An intern moves through each station as the garment does, and can stop, repeat, or specialize anywhere along the way. Every station is available to name. Participants who want to continue learning may move into three advanced pathways for deeper education, greater responsibility, and continued career exploration.

Stylized plan — not to scale

It starts with a bag.

A hoodie — premium brand, barely worn, headed for a landfill — arrives at Donation Receiving. A participant logs it in. From the boutique floor, customers can watch this happen, because the entire training center runs behind glass. The work here isn’t hidden in a back room. It’s the point.

Someone decides it’s worthy.

At Sorting & Quality, trained eyes check seams, zippers, pilling, authenticity. Judgment calls, made all day — the kind of real decisions most training programs never trust participants to make.

Then it gets cared for.

Laundry & Fabric Care, then the steaming station. Water temperature, fabric settings, a crisp finish. Care, literally — applied to a garment by someone the system stopped caring for at graduation.

It gets its portrait taken.

At Photography & Inventory, the hoodie is shot, measured, and listed. If it sells online, two Packaging & Shipping stations wrap it and send it anywhere in the country — with a handwritten thank-you inside the box.

Or it hits the floor.

Eight hundred square feet of Retail Boutique — merchandised, stocked, and staffed by participants. A real store with real customers, where a shopper hunting a deal on Lululemon funds someone’s training shift without even knowing it.

Sold — by someone with a name tag.

The hoodie leaves through Checkout in the hands of a participant running the register. A transaction, a thank-you, a receipt. A hundred small independences, one at a time.

And the rest is built for belonging.

The Bean pours the coffee. The Community Table seats twelve. The Lounge is where shifts end and friendships don’t. And the Quiet Room is there by design, not apology — because a space built for neurodivergent adults plans for regulation the same way it plans for plumbing.
